The goals of the National Trends facet is to increase voter participation in underrepresented constituencies, in partnership with the Detroit branch of the NAACP; promote awareness about human trafficking; and support the advancement of Black women in leadership.

Throughout the year, we host community events/activities to engage metropolitan Detroit residents in registering to vote, participation in the 2020 census, and education around civic engagement.

For the past 2 years, we have hosted a luncheon promoting the leadership of Black women in our community called Ladies Who Lead.  The event is attended by more than 400 women leaders in the Detroit area and culminates with an award to the woman selected by our Awards committee.  In 2019, the inaugural awardee was our own Regine Beaubouef, who has led the engineering and transportation industry in Michigan and beyond.  In 2020, the awardee was Kimberly Trent, who now promotes social equity policies throughout the state of Michigan in the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.
