The Renaissance Chapter of The Links, Inc. Partners with Nordstrom and Others to Raise Money for Charity and Community Service Programs
3/27/2007

Detroit fashionistas were all abuzz with excitement and the anticipation of a special evening full of private shopping, delectable food, and live entertainment at The Renaissance Chapter of The Links, Incorporated’s 14th Biennial Fashion Show and Fundraiser held Sunday, March 11, 2007 at fabulous, trendy, and oh so chic, Nordstrom Somerset Collection in Troy, Michigan.

It was a “Legendary Evening” and the theme echoed throughout the night. This Party with a purpose was designed to celebrate the friends, patrons, and corporate partners of The Renaissance Chapter who support our education and community service programs, said Diana C. Jones, Event Chair. Chapter President Joya Harris-Sherron explained that the proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the Charles H. Wright African American History Museum in Detroit and will help the Museum expand its youth education programs and outreach.

Guests soon discovered Nordstrom was the place to “see and be seen” as it hosted The Renaissance Chapter of The Links, Inc.’s private evening of stunning fashion vignettes. The store closed early for the event and arriving guests were greeted with butlered champagne, delectable hors d’oeuvres, sumptuous entrées, mouthwatering deserts, live entertainment, and the opportunity to enjoy special sales on all three floors and complimentary 20-minute hand massages at the full-service in-store Spa. It was a special night to give back to the community and to celebrate a special new partnership with Nordstrom in Metropolitan Detroit.

Nearly 1000 guests enjoyed a memorable evening as each of the partners ---The Renaissance Chapter and Nordstrom---focused on giving back to the community. Nordstrom Store Manager Paul Morton declared the evening a success and saluted the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and The Renaissance Chapter Umbrella Programs --- principal beneficiaries of this “Legendary Evening.”

Guests “walking the red carpet” included Link Gwendolyn B. Lee, the 14th National President of The Links, Incorporated, Link Margot James Copeland, National Vice President and members of several area Links Chapters , along with a host of invited dignitaries, community leaders, and public officials from Oakland County and the City of Detroit ---All joined together to salute the emerging partnership with Nordstrom which will benefit the community service programs of The Renaissance Chapter and other local charitable organizations. In September, Nordstrom will open its newest store in Novi, Michigan and partner with eleven Links Chapters in Southeastern Michigan and the world famous Detroit Symphony Orchestra to raise monies for worthwhile charitable programs in the Community.
