The Renaissance (Detroit, MI) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, under the leadership of Joya Harris-Sherron, President was awarded First Place in the Category Umbrella Programming for the multi-faceted services they provide to the students at the Courtis Elementary School in the city of Detroit. The distinguished and coveted Programming Award presented by the national organization of The Links, Incorporated, has a monetary value of $10,000 which will be used to continue the Chapter’s 2007 educational projects. “There is no way we could have won this honor without the bond of sisterhood in our chapter,” said Ms. Harris.
“This was a strong partnership effort on behalf of the chapter working with and for the youth of our community,” said Ms. Harris-Sherron. "The entire Chapter pulled together to make the Courtis School Umbrella Project succeed, but there is one person who deserves special recognition.”
“Special thanks to Gail Stallworth, Renaissance Chapter President 1998 to 2002, who continues to provide leadership. She is the heart and soul of Courtis, never wanting credit or special recognition…she just wants our Services to Youth projects to be the best and we applaud her leadership role in taking us to where we are today with Courtis School!"
The Renaissance Chapter’s programs were designated first among 273 chapters in the nationwide organization. More than thirty additional chapters were congratulated for “Best Practices” in their programs.
