The Renaissance Chapter of The Links, Inc., in partnership with Lear Corporation and with a donation from AT&T expands it’s computer program with the opening and dedication of a second state-of-the-art hands-on computer laboratory. These new enhancements to the Renaissance Links Computer Program at Courtis School in Detroit maintain the Chapter’s commitment to improving opportunities in the community and overall education for students in public elementary schools in Detroit.
The Renaissance Chapter’s relationship with The Courtis School started with a national program of The Links, Inc., "Links to Success: Children Achieving Excellence" program which initially started back in 2001. The Renaissance Chapter knew that technology and computer literacy is crucial to the success of our children and community and decided to act on that void at Courtis Elementary school. Their continued persistence to make a difference, complete and expand their mission even after national program funding ceased, has made an impactful difference in the lives of the Courtis Elementary students and in the community.
Recently, while guesting on The Oprah Winfrey show, Bill Gates, CEO of Microsoft Corporation along with his wife Melinda spoke of their concern about school children and the disparaging state of public school systems across America. If the proper tools are provided at an early age, coupled with the support of the teachers and parents, our children will have hope, a chance to excel and the ability to compete and excel in the future. Courtis Elementary school has a chance to have the opportunity to provide young children and the community access to improve their computer skills and confidence to learn advanced technology. Local community members, city council and other social, educational and political leaders and The Renaissance Chapter all come together to provide enhancements to the educational experience through the computer program The Chapter developed more than developed more than six years ago.
The Renaissance Chapter of The Links, Inc. and Lear Corporation want to stimulate and increase public awareness, recognize partners and encourage excitement among students, teachers and the community.
