LINKS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY “FOCUSES HOPE”

The Links Incorporated 37th National Assembly in Detroit
2/2/2010

Everything we do is a matter of heart, body, and soul. Our chapter members, a handful of talented, dedicated women believe in “caring for our community” and devoting their energies to funding, creating, developing and implementing several educational programs that make a difference in the lives of many in Southeast Michigan, South Africa and Haiti.

The Renaissance Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is especially proud of its nearly 25-year record of unyielding, consistent, effective work benefiting children in Detroit and around the world. Our educational programming for children is designed to help foster their successful futures in school and in life, and focuses on empowering children with keys to knowledge and development through global learning, education and the arts, a wellness program to fight obesity and establish healthy eating habits that can last a lifetime.

Our award-winning programs on computer literacy, art education, physical education and nutritional health, the middle school golf program, and a children’s web site that combines language arts and history and concentrates on leadership and self-esteem, are just some of the various programs we support in the community. Overseas, we have gifted students with books, pencils, and other school supplies, established a lunch program that provides more than 800 students with mid-day meals daily, and completed building a school in South Africa. Chapter members develop and administer our programming with personal funds, and greatly appreciate additional support from friends, benefactors who attend our fund raisers, and corporate sponsors, who partner with us to provide these programs and services to the communities in which we serve.

Supporting their dreams and empowering youth to succeed academically; providing them with opportunities to develop character and leadership; fulfilling needs, providing compassion, nurturing others, and solving problems is essential to our philosophy of caring for our community and making a difference.

In addition to providing educational programming to over 1000 students in The Detroit Public Schools, The Renaissance Chapter of The Links, Inc. has made substantial contributions to a number of community service and health groups in the Detroit community, including The Focus Hope Fast Track Program, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History (MAAH), The American Red Cross, Detroit Public Schools Art Programs, Your Heritage House, Children’s Hospital Sickle Cell Anemia Unit, Karmanos, United Negro College Fund, and we are continuing our financial assistance to gifted performing arts students.

We invite you to read more about our programs and to partner with us to continue efforts to bring our youth and communities successful, relevant, effective projects and activities that provide opportunities to learn, share, and impact the future.

Sincerely,
President
